At the end of the Grande Rue in Barbizon, France, at the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau, there’s a medallion embedded in a boulder.  The sculptor Henri Chapu (1833-1891) wanted to honor Theodore Rousseau and Jean Millet – two of the most famous painters of the “Barbizon School.”

This year Barbizon is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Millet’s “Angelus.” On the road from Chailly a mosaic of the painting welcomes visitors to town.
