Homage to Rousseau and Millet

hommage At the end of the Grande Rue in Barbizon, France, at the edge of the Forest of Fontainebleau, there’s a medallion embedded in a boulder.  The sculptor Henri Chapu (1833-1891) wanted to honor Theodore Rousseau and Jean Millet – two of the most famous painters of the “Barbizon School.”

150th Anniversary of Millet's Angelus

angelus This year Barbizon is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Millet’s “Angelus.” On the road from Chailly a mosaic of the painting welcomes visitors to town.
