Visited the New Cairo Campus of the American University in Cairo. Two years ago AUC moved from Tahrir Square to the desert.  As a result, the cultural landscape of the university has changed dramatically.  The stray cats, the noise of car horns, the sidewalk newsstand on Al Amr Kadadar Street no longer flavor AUC – its all been replaced by award-winning homogeneous architecture, vast asphalt parking lots, and a fleet of buses traversing the desert dumping AUCians at a non-descript west gate.
