Jovan Cvijić’s portrait in a geography classroom in Knjaževac.
The eerie sight of the Tower of Skulls in Niš. In 1809, with defeat inevitable, the Serbian Duke of Resava fired his pistol into the gunpowder stores of the Turkish defenses. The explosion killed 4000 Serbs and 10,000 Turks. To deter future attacks the Turks embedded the skulls of the dead Serbs into a tower.
